Lisbon
Lisbon airport to the city centre
From Lisbon airport to the city centre, the metro is the easy way. The red line leaves from Terminal 1, and with one change you're in the Baixa in under half an hour. Tap your bank card at the gate and the ride costs €1.92 (2026), or it's included if you collect the Lisboa Card in arrivals.
Lisbon airport metro: the red line into town
The metro station sits at Terminal 1, and the red line runs every day from 6:30 to 1:00, every 6 to 10 minutes. If you land at Terminal 2, a free shuttle bus takes you across to Terminal 1 first.
No line goes straight to the Baixa, so you change once on the way:
From the airport to the Baixa
-
Red Aeroporto→Alameda
-
Green Alameda→Rossio, Baixa-Chiado or Cais do Sodré
For your hotel’s side of town, Saldanha connects to the yellow line and São Sebastião to the blue one, which also runs to Baixa-Chiado.
Tapping a contactless bank card at the gate, in and out, is the cheapest single ride if you don’t want to buy a card, at €1.92. From your third ride on, the €0.50 navegante card from the station machines, loaded with pay-as-you-go credit, costs less.
Taxi from Lisbon airport: the new fixed fares
Since 15 October 2026, taxis from the airport rank charge fixed fares into Lisbon, with luggage and tolls included. You can buy a voucher at the Ask Me Lisboa desk in arrivals or pay the driver, and the taxis in the scheme take cards and MB Way, the Portuguese payment app.
| To | Weekdays 7:00–22:00 | Nights, weekends, holidays |
|---|---|---|
| Saldanha, Avenidas Novas, Parque das Nações | €16 | €20 |
| Baixa, Chiado, Alfama, Belém | €19 | €23 |
To Cascais, Estoril or Sintra the fixed fare is €53.40 by day and €64 at night.
The scheme is brand new, though. In October 2026 some parts, like the information boards in arrivals, were still being set up.
Uber from Lisbon airport
Uber picks up on level 2 of the P2 car park, at arrivals level, and the app shows you the exact spot.
Uber has no fixed fare, so the price depends on when you book. With the new scheme, a taxi’s is known before you get in.
Carris buses from the airport
Buses 744 and 722 run to Restauradores, next to Rossio, by way of Saldanha, and the 783 goes to Amoreiras. After the metro closes, the 208 night bus runs to Cais do Sodré.
A ticket bought on board is €2.30 (2026). Bags have to fit within 55 × 40 × 20 cm, though, so with a big suitcase the metro or a taxi is the better bet.
Picking up the Lisboa Card at the airport
The Ask Me Lisboa desk in arrivals opens every day from 7:00 to 22:00. Swap your voucher for the card there, and your first ride on the red line is what starts it.
Landing in the evening, with the sightseeing tomorrow, pay tonight’s ride with your bank card and save the card for the morning.
