Porto metro, buses and trams for visitors

©

The Porto metro takes you from the airport to the centre and over the river to Gaia, on the same Andante ticket as the city buses and urban trains. A ride in the centre is €1.40, and the Andante Tour covers the lot for a day at €7.75 (2026 fares).

Porto metro tickets: the Andante card

The metro, the STCP city buses and the urban trains all run on one ticket system, Andante, and the price depends on the zones you cross, not on what you ride. Within a ticket’s time, you can change between them without paying again.

For a few rides, buy the blue Andante card for €0.60 at any metro machine and load zone tickets onto it:

Andante fares for 2026
TicketPriceGood for
Z2 single€1.40An hour around the centre
Z4 single€2.301 h 15, enough for the airport
Andante 24, Z2€5.3524 hours in the centre
Andante 24, Z4€8.5524 hours, out to the airport
Andante Tour 1€7.7524 hours on the whole network
Andante Tour 3€16.5572 hours on the whole network

The Andante Tour is the visitor’s ticket, for the whole network. The metro machines don’t sell it: you buy it at the Andante shops, the airport one included, at CP ticket offices and at Payshop agents.

For a day in the centre, the Andante 24 for Z2 is the cheaper day ticket. On a day that includes the airport, the Tour costs less than the Andante 24 for Z4.

Validating your Andante ticket

There are no gates on the Porto metro, so it runs on trust, with inspectors on board. Validate every time you board and every time you change line, holding the card close to the black circle until the light turns green.

At nine stations a pilot lets you pay with a bank card or phone on a marked validator, as long as you start your trip there. Each ride costs €2.30, up to €7.75 a day (2026 fares).

The nine are Aeroporto, Senhora da Hora, Casa da Música, Trindade, Campanhã, Bolhão, Campo 24 de Agosto, São Bento and Aliados.

The Porto metro lines you’ll use

Two of the six lines take you to the airport, the old centre and Gaia, and they meet at Trindade:

The lines a visitor uses

  1. E AeroportoTrindade

    27 min

Then on to Bolhão, Campanhã station and the Dragão stadium

  2. D TrindadeJardim do Morro, Gaia

Through Aliados and São Bento, then over the top deck of the Dom Luís I bridge

For the Clérigos Tower and Livraria Lello, get off at Aliados or São Bento. For the Cathedral it’s São Bento, though the metro doesn’t go down to the Ribeira itself.

Buses, trains and the historic trams in Porto

STCP buses reach what the metro doesn’t, on the same ticket, and on board you can pay €2.50 by bank card (2026). After the metro stops, a night network takes over, with line 3M to the airport.

The urban trains leave from São Bento and Campanhã. Braga, Guimarães and Aveiro are beyond the Andante network, though, and need a CP ticket of their own.

Then there are the old trams, which run on their own fares and aren’t covered by the Andante Tour. A ride is €6 on board for an adult and €3.50 for children aged 4 to 12 (2026), paid by card or by MB Way, Portugal’s phone payment app.

The Guindais funicular, up from the Ribeira, has been closed for maintenance since 18 July 2026, and STCP hasn’t announced when it will reopen.

The Elevador da Lada, a lift from the Ribeira, still runs, but it only goes halfway up towards the Cathedral, as far as the Barredo quarter. A ride cost €2 when it reopened in 2024.
