Lisboa Card attractions: time slots and teenagers

At most places on the list it’s easy: the desk checks the card and you walk in. Two exceptions are worth knowing before you plan.

The first is Belém, where Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower both want a free time slot, booked with the card’s number.

The second is teenagers. At the 12 places marked with an asterisk, the Fado Museum and the Puppet Museum among them, a 13 to 15-year-old pays their own ticket on top of the child card.

Which Lisboa Card sights open on Mondays

Monday is the day to watch, because about 30 of the 51 places close, Jerónimos, Belém Tower and all four Museum of Lisbon sites among them. These stay open, so build your Monday around them:

  • São Jorge Castle and the Royal Treasure Museum
  • The Rua Augusta Arch, the Lisboa Story Centre and the Codfish History Centre, all on Praça do Comércio
  • The Monument to the Discoveries, in Belém
  • Pilar 7, inside the 25 de Abril Bridge, and the Almada Negreiros murals (CIAN)
  • Outside the city: Sintra Myths and Legends, the monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça, and the Convent of Christ in Tomar

The other closing days are easier to dodge. Mafra Palace closes on Tuesdays, the Ajuda National Palace on Wednesdays and the GNR Museum on Sundays.

Included museums and sights closed for now

Six places on the list are shut, so leave them out of your sums. Four are national museums closed for works: Tile, Ancient Art, Archaeology, and Theatre and Dance. Ancient Art plans a partial reopening on 21 November 2026, and the Costume Museum has been shut since 2024.

The sixth is the Santa Justa Lift, stopped since September 2025. Each of the six carries a “temporarily closed” note in the list.

Three more are open, with part of them shut: the museum inside São Jorge Castle, the basilica at Mafra Palace, and some terraces, a cloister and gardens at Tomar’s convent.

Lisboa Card attractions outside Lisbon

Four of the included monuments are a day trip away: Mafra Palace, the monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça, and the Convent of Christ in Tomar. The card pays the entry, and you make your own way there.

Sintra is the easy one, since the train there and back is on the card.

Transport included with the Lisboa Card

The other half of the card is getting around: every metro line from the airport in, and every Carris bus and tram in the city, tram 28 among them. The Carris Metropolitana buses out of town aren’t included.

Out of town, it covers the CP trains to Sintra, Cascais and Azambuja and the Fertagus trains south across the river to Setúbal.

The Tagus ferries aren’t on it, and nor are the town buses in Sintra and Cascais, the 434 and 435 up to the Sintra palaces among them. The card’s own terms don’t mention the funiculars either, so don’t count on them.

What the Lisboa Card doesn’t include

Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra isn’t on the list. In Cascais the card stops at the station, with no sight in the town on it.

Others give money off instead of entry. The Oceanarium, Pena Palace and the Gulbenkian are among them, and so is Lisbon Cathedral, the Sé, at 20% off. For those, the list of discounts shows what you’d pay with the card.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Lisboa Card include the train to Sintra?

It does, there and back from Rossio, as many times as you like while the card runs. Once you're in Sintra, though, the buses up to the palaces are a separate fare.

Is Belém Tower included in the Lisboa Card?

Yes. Like Jerónimos, it needs a free time slot, booked with the card's number once you've collected the card. Both close on Mondays.

Is Quinta da Regaleira included in the Lisboa Card?

It isn't on the card's list at all, not even as a discount. You buy its ticket separately.

Is Lisbon Cathedral included in the Lisboa Card?

Not as entry. The Sé is on the discount list instead, so you get 20% off the ticket with the card.
