Day 1
Baixa and the river
The old centre on foot, from the tiled station to the Cathedral and the Clérigos climb, then the Six Bridges cruise.
- On foot all day. From the airport, metro line E reaches Trindade in 27 minutes.
-
Morning São Bento Station → A working station, so the hall covered in blue-and-white tiles is free to walk into. The Cathedral is just up the hill. -
Late morning Porto Cathedral → From the square outside you look down over the old town to the river and Gaia. €4 -
Lunch A francesinha near the Aliados Porto's own sandwich: hot meats under melted cheese, in a beer and tomato sauce. -
Afternoon Clérigos Tower → The tower stands at the top of the Baixa, and from its balcony the whole old town is below you. €10 -
Late afternoon Six Bridges cruise → 50 minutes on the Douro from Cais da Ribeira. In winter the last boat leaves at 16:00, so watch the clock. €20 -
Sunset Ribeira Dinner on the riverfront, facing the Gaia cellars you'll visit tomorrow.

TipAll three of the pass's tickets fall on this day, so pick its date for day one. From Clérigos down to the river it's mostly downhill.
Day 2
Ribeira and Gaia
The Bolsa Palace and São Francisco on the Porto bank, the bridge on foot, and a port cellar tour in Gaia.
- On foot, crossing the Dom Luís I bridge to Gaia and back.
-
Morning Bolsa Palace → Book your tour time at the desk first thing: each language has its own, taken in order of arrival. €14 -
Late morning Church of São Francisco → Next door to the Bolsa: plain and Gothic outside, with gilded carving over the pillars and chapels inside. €12 -
Afternoon Dom Luís I Bridge → Cross to Gaia on the lower deck; come back over the top deck for the view of the old town. -
Late afternoon Cálem cellars → Guided tour of the cellars and the interactive museum, with a tasting. €22

TipAfter the tasting, the Gaia cable car lifts you from the quay to Jardim do Morro, at the Gaia end of the top deck, so the walk back starts at the top.
Day 3
Gardens and Serralves
West of the centre: the Soares dos Reis museum and the Crystal Palace Gardens on the same street, then an afternoon at Serralves.
- Walk to the museum, then an STCP bus west to Serralves, on an Andante ticket.
-
Morning Soares dos Reis Museum → Portuguese painting and sculpture in the Carrancas Palace. Entry is at 10:00 or 14:00, so start the day here. €10 -
Late morning Crystal Palace Gardens → The main gate is on Rua de D. Manuel II, the museum's own street. River views from the hill, and free to enter. -
Afternoon Serralves Museum → Museum and park. For the gardens alone there is a cheaper park ticket, and it includes the treetop walk. €24

TipTo see the Douro Valley instead, the day trip with a river cruise and lunch takes this whole day.
The Porto Highlights Pass, and what you book on the side
The Highlights Pass covers the three big tickets of the plan. If you’d rather ride the tourist bus, the Explorer Pass swaps the Clérigos climb for 48 hours of hop-on hop-off, a wine cellar and a fado night.
The rest you book stop by stop: the Cálem cellar tour, the Soares dos Reis museum and Serralves, plus a fado night if you fancy one.
Days one and two are on foot. For the ride in from the airport and the bus out to Serralves, single Andante tickets do the job, or an Andante Tour if you ride a lot.
Two city museums on the Porto route
Henry the Navigator, the prince of Portugal’s great sea voyages, was born at Casa do Infante, tradition says, a few steps from the Ribeira. The Romantic Museum, the country house where an exiled king of Piedmont-Sardinia died in 1849, is next to the Crystal Palace Gardens.
Both may be free on Sundays, so if day one or day three falls on one, ask at the desk.

Frequently asked questions
Which pass is best for 3 days in Porto?
The Porto Highlights Pass, because Clérigos, the Cathedral and the Six Bridges cruise all fit into day one of this plan. The Porto Explorer Pass leaves out Clérigos and adds a 48-hour hop-on hop-off bus, a wine cellar and a fado concert.
Does the pass include public transport?
No. The Andante Tour, sold separately for 24 or 72 hours, covers the metro (airport station included), STCP buses and urban trains. The historic trams sell their own tickets, and the Guindais funicular has been closed for maintenance since July 2026.
Can I visit Livraria Lello?
It fits on day one, a short walk from Clérigos. Entry is by ticket with a time slot, and a walking tour with fast-track entry, €65, gets you in without the queue.
Which port wine cellar should I visit in Gaia?
Cálem's guided tour with a tasting has far more reviews on Tiqets than any other cellar ticket, and it's the one on day two. Cálem and Fonseca both sell versions with a fado show if you want port and fado in one booking.
